Frequently Asked Questions
Our backups are securely run from the server level per account and stored remotely on Wasabi Hot Storage. We run three (3) backups each week, and maintain these backups for 1-2 months. We also retain one backup per month going back two (2) years, ensuring that data loss is very unlikely.
Our dedicated server is located in Taos, New Mexico, United States of America. It is hosted with Brown Rice Internet, in a solar-powered data center. Brown Rice has redundant high-bandwidth fiber optic lines running to Denver, Colorado, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, along with additional redundancy via high-bandwidth antenna to a separately sourced local fiber line.
By default, our shared and VPS hosting plans are considered “unmanaged”. This means that while we do track server and account level performance, security and risks, and help our customers resolve basic problems with their accounts, we do not provide ongoing maintenance of your cPanel account or individual websites. Managed hosting means that we, your hosting provider, provide additional maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting and reporting for your hosting account. The level of management can also cover your individual websites. We have fixed rate monthly and annual fees for this service for individual shared hosting plans as well as VPS plans. Managed hosting plans that also cover websites are quoted on a case by case basis, depending on the number of websites and their complexity.
Yes! We offer encrypted email by default. We can also install premium SSL certificates, and assist you with email security. Contact us if you have any questions.
Shared hosting means that your account is on a server that contains a pool of other accounts. Each account is segregated from the others, with limitations on each accounts usage of the shared CPU, memory and bandwidth. For many smaller projects and smaller businesses, this is fine. For businesses and projects that require dedicated resource allocation and heightened security, a Virtual Private Server is a good choice.
A Virtual Private Server or VPS is a basically a server within a server. Datacenters have many racks of physical servers running. A single rack server may have many VPS installations running on it, each with dedicated virtual CPU, memory and storage allocation. This is done to segregate operations and resources, and maximize the utilization of physical hardware as well as improve efficiency. So if your business is concerned about security, having dedicated resources to ensure you can handle spikes in traffic, or wish to run more resource intensive website operations, a VPS is a good choice.
Yes. While we always strive to provide tailored training and documentation to web development clients once their site is being launched, we understand that most clients desire to complete basic maintenance like updating WordPress, their theme and plugins themselves. Nowadays, this is usually a pain free experience, where few errors or issues arise from updating the website’s software. In addition, we retain backups for up to 2 years, and are also quick to resolve errors after an updated plugin has caused them.
It’s all about the combination of planning and organization upfront and the complexity of the build itself. For a typical small business website that presents services, project examples, team pages, news, ect, 3-6 weeks is common. For a more complex eCommerce rollout, with many products, categories, shipping options, customer support pages, 2-3 months is reasonable.
We have also worked with clients who have very comprehensive outlines of their website page hierarchy and content, examples of other websites that they would like to be similar to, and know what they want. As such, we have also completed websites over the course of 2-3 days and then launched.
This is not to cast shame on those who are struggling to outline their websites content or are unsure of how they want it to look. But it is worth considering the benefits of crafting a clear plan and outlining your content as best as you can. If you are not sure if your website plans are sufficient to prevent a more length build and review and then tweaking process, run them by us and we would be happy to give you own 2 cents!
In many cases, yes. But it is important to know when it is no longer worth maintain a decade+ old website in the face of changing security threats, code compliance issues, and user experience standards.
Yes, we are happy to! Jacob has a background in technical writing and loves to write. We can work with you to outline your content, review competitor language, and also conduct keyword analysis to ensure that your marketing language and terms get you the kind of results that you are seeking. Contact us if this is of interest to you.
Website Content Management Platforms (CMS) have evolved a lot since the early days of the internet. WordPress has carved out a substantial lead among all website CMS platforms present on the internet, totaling 61.6% of all websites with a CMS. In addition, WordPress controls 43.5% of all websites on the internet period. So it obviously has something going for it. We believe that this is primarily due to the robust developer community that backs WordPress, its associated themes and plugins, and the ability for WordPress to integrate into almost any cloud based software platform out there. This makes WordPress a highly versatile and flexible platform to build upon.
Our current preferences for website CMS platforms is as follows (in order of preference, with notes on specific use cases and benefits):
- WordPress
- Shopify – best for eCommerce
- Squarespace
- Webflow
- Wix
While we have assisted clients with other platforms like Joomla, Drupal, and Weebly, these are in decline and we do not recommend planning to keep them long term.

If you wake up one day and check your website and find that it is not loading correctly, or just showing an error, please contact us immediately via the live chat function or via contact form or email. We can normally resolve most site issues within 30-60 minutes of looking into it. If you realize that your website may have stopped working weeks ago, and no one has noticed (!), and what’s more, there is something seriously wrong with it, we can initiate a backup retrieval and restoration process for you.
