It’s all about the combination of planning and organization upfront and the complexity of the build itself. For a typical small business website that presents services, project examples, team pages, news, ect, 3-6 weeks is common. For a more complex eCommerce rollout, with many products, categories, shipping options, customer support pages, 2-3 months is reasonable.
We have also worked with clients who have very comprehensive outlines of their website page hierarchy and content, examples of other websites that they would like to be similar to, and know what they want. As such, we have also completed websites over the course of 2-3 days and then launched.
This is not to cast shame on those who are struggling to outline their websites content or are unsure of how they want it to look. But it is worth considering the benefits of crafting a clear plan and outlining your content as best as you can. If you are not sure if your website plans are sufficient to prevent a more length build and review and then tweaking process, run them by us and we would be happy to give you own 2 cents!
