Website Content Management Platforms (CMS) have evolved a lot since the early days of the internet. WordPress has carved out a substantial lead among all website CMS platforms present on the internet, totaling 61.6% of all websites with a CMS. In addition, WordPress controls 43.5% of all websites on the internet period. So it obviously has something going for it. We believe that this is primarily due to the robust developer community that backs WordPress, its associated themes and plugins, and the ability for WordPress to integrate into almost any cloud based software platform out there. This makes WordPress a highly versatile and flexible platform to build upon.

Our current preferences for website CMS platforms is as follows (in order of preference, with notes on specific use cases and benefits):

  1. WordPress
  2. Shopify – best for eCommerce
  3. Squarespace
  4. Webflow
  5. Wix

While we have assisted clients with other platforms like Joomla, Drupal, and Weebly, these are in decline and we do not recommend planning to keep them long term.
